Luggage Cakes
Emily's friends Carl and Yan got married last Saturday. For their wedding reception, they commissioned Emily to bake a cake to fit their theme, "Journey of a Lifetime." Emily put together this impressive looking luggage cake.
The base cake, made to look like a Louis Vitton suitcase, was combination of butter rum and chocolate moist. The other bags and the guitar case, purely decorative in function, were styrofoam and fondant. The topper came from the couple.
Emily spent much time painting the logos and designs on the suitcase by hand. This was a painstaking operation requiring several hours.
C and M stood for the initials of the couple (Yan is actually Marianne.)
Emily intended the passports just for accent, but they were a big hit among the guests. Here's host Mo Atega taking a bite off it. Careful, Mo! It's cardboard inside.
